Neeraj Chopra of India hopes to improve upon his Olympic silver medal

26-year-old earned silver in Paris following Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem's Olympic record-breaking gold.

Neeraj Chopra, an Indian javelin standout, said on Saturday that losing out on the Olympic gold medal was disappointing, but the injured athlete is looking to improve in future events.

After Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won gold in the javelin final with an Olympic record of 92.97 meters, the 26-year-old took home silver in Paris.

Not too far behind his personal best of 89.94 meters, Chopra, who made history in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by winning India's first-ever Olympic gold in track and field, threw farther in Paris with 89.45 meters.

From Switzerland, where he is preparing for future competitions, Chopra told reporters over the phone, "There is no comparison with a gold medal."

"Winning back-to-back medals for your nation is good and taking a lap of the ground with your country's flag is always a wonderful feeling," he stated.

"But the national anthem playing when your flag goes up with you on top of the podium was missing."

He did, however, express satisfaction with his silver.

"We have to accept what we have," he remarked. "I am happy with what I got."

Chopra won the gold medal in the world championship last year, building on his breakthrough performance in Tokyo. However, he missed several events because of a groin ailment.

Nonetheless, the muscular celebrity, who is from the northern Indian state of Haryana, which produced Olympic wrestlers and boxers, is optimistic about her future achievements.

In response to Nadeem's incredible throw in Paris, Chopra stated, "I felt that I could cover more distance."

However, Chopra stated that he will not set goals for himself that exceed 90 meters.

"I turn this over to God. The javelin will fly if you prepare properly and give it your all," he remarked.

Following his triumph in Tokyo, Chopra rose to national hero status, securing multimillion-dollar endorsement deals thanks to his endearing boyish charm, versatile haircuts, and contagious smile.

But Nadeem of Pakistan became an overnight celebrity when his throw won his country's first individual Olympic gold.

With the Olympic achievement, Nadeem received a buffalo from his father-in-law.

Chopra, however, doesn't seem shocked because he claims to have received a sizable jar of ghee, or clarified butter.

"In Indian villages... gifts such as buffaloes, motorbikes and tractors are common," he stated.
