September 27 has been designated as World Tourism Day as a worldwide observance by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) since 1980. This date was selected since the UNWTO's statutes were adopted on that day in 1970.
This day aims to increase understanding of the role that tourism plays in the global community and to illustrate the ways in which it influences social, cultural, political, and economic values around the globe.
The UNWTO announced "Tourism and the Digital Transformation" as the 2018 topic. To commemorate the day, Pakistan Tourism and Development Cooperation (PTDC) is holding a photo exhibition at Flashman's Hotel in Rawalpindi on September 27, 2018.
